Primavera del 2005. Hoes y este servidor nos dirigimos, con la mochila cargada de pintura, hacia uno de los extraradios de la ciudad Condal. Mike, un recien pintor llegado de Vancouver, nos acompaña. Pronto me doy cuenta de que Mike, también es un gran amante del proto-graffiti. Es decir, de aquellas letras embellecidas por la acción, más que de la estética, que surgen del trazo impredecible, y que van dstinadas hacia esas paredes erosionadas, medio caidas.

Hemos agotado las horas y la pintura. Mike nos hace entrega de su zine tamaño cuartilla. Son sus dibujos a fotocopia, a todo blanco y negro, estilo black book, e impreso en papeles manuales, verdaderamente reciclados. Original. Un marginado arte infantil y popular que da sentido a sus piezas conduciéndolo a las formas barrocas de su colectivo Canadiense “Humanfive”. Sus collage y esculturas están meticulosamente elaboradas con papeles y objetos reciclados. Expuesto desde, Portland, San Diego, Tokio, Toronto y Barcelona bajo exposiciones conjuntas e individuales. Eso no impide que su trabajo sea trasladado hacia lugares ajenos al negocio; tantos alias como paredes. Este tipo no para. Recientemente lo hemos visto comisariar la expo de Fasim y Keis en el Miscelania. Y la verdad, de intuición, va sobrado.

“Me apasiona crear situaciones surrealistas e inconfortables a partir de objetos encontrados, papeles envejecidos y delicados. Mezclarlos meticulosamente para crear una decoración hogareña y ornamental. Incluso artefactos o artilugios científicos que se remontan a antiguas civilizaciones. Todo es adaptable, dentro o fuera.”
